Theories of International relations

Theory - to find sort of order » provide us rules
- normative structure
- Normative component = SHOULD, GUIDES FOR PRACTICAL ACTION !
- simple rue for many objectives (simplyfication of reality)
- tell us what we can forget
- hypothesis
- should be testable (not like a function), should be consistent (like a rule), but we don´t have in social sciences tests
- “indeterminent theory” » everything could be included » do NOT help us, because it could be always right and it is not testable
- are constituted in social science » theries are inside » the distinction between SUBJECT and OBJECT (observe nature - like filosophy) » neplatí pro soc. sc., pol., economic » PART OF REALITY
- observation in the social reality (no S and O)
- “selfulfilling profesy” - someone´s statement about the world - i.e. a bank falling down and next day really bancrot = so theories can also act! - i.e. marxism (class, revolution, different class system..)
- we cannot change theories of nature, but we can change theories of social sciences - law of society - constant + human nature (don´t change like sea or rock)
- social sciences have couple of theories
